Frequently asked questions

    • Unlike traditional massage, Nick's approach uses a combination of deep bodywork and specific movements from you, the client. It's not just a therapy that is "done to you," It's an educational process, with the goal of teaching your body to move and to operate in a new way.

    • It is done in a series of sessions, each building on the next. Nick acknowledges that change takes time, and that a problem in one area means the rest of the body has compensated for it (You can't "fix" the problem without addressing the whole body)

    • Nick does not not “fix you.” Many practitioners are “fix-it” practitioners who see a problem area and go digging away at it. Instead of treating individual symptoms, Nicks goal is to help make the STRUCTURE of your entire system more aligned, so that you can FUNCTION more optimally.

  • It is generally relaxing & rejuvenating to receive. While certain areas of the body may have more sensation, depending upon chronic holding patterns & injuries, the experience should not be painful and should leave you feeling energized and grounded. Some describe it as "Bodywork with a side of personal training."

  • Anyone and everyone can benefit from bodywork and movement therapy! We all have some forms of postural dysfunctions, whether that be from repetitive strain in sports, sitting in the same positions for hours on end, or just the way we live our lives day to day. Utilizing manual therapy techniques in conjunction with movement education can help to get you out of those long-standing patterns that may be causing you pain, discomfort or predisposing you to injury.

  • Each session starts with 10-15 minutes of interview and posture/movement assessments.

After assessments, a typical session consists of 60-75 minutes of hands-on bodywork and movement. During the session, you will be asked to stand, to make movements, and walk. Work is mostly done on a table but may also be done seated and standing.

Draping (a sheet covering your body) is not used, because you will be moving on and off the table throughout the session. Please dress to your comfort level. Most clients wear either running shorts, compression shorts or underwear on the bottom and for women, a bra or sports bra on top. For men, if wearing underwear, please do not wear baggy boxers... boxer briefs or briefs are better suited for movement/bodywork.

The pressure of the work ranges from very light to very deep depending on your needs. Techniques also are adapted for each client.

  • Please come to your session showered & clean, without any creams/lotions on your skin, and wearing NO perfumes/fragrances.

Regarding clothing, please dress to your comfort level.

Most clients wear either running shorts, exercise shorts or compression shorts (biker shorts) on the bottom and for women, a sports bra or tank top on top. Pro Tip: Dress as if you were going to the gym or to a physical therapy appointment, you will be moving on and off the table throughout the session.

  • This is another incredible thing about this approach compared to many other hands-on modalities... the changes actually last!

Rather than just aiming to "relax the body" or "fix your ache or pain," this approach is all about re-education through touch and movement. We and aim to teach your brain and body to move and to operate in a new way, making you an agent in your own healing.

This means that the real changes occur days to weeks after the session, when you begin using your body in new and better ways. This creates deep permanent change because you are now acting different in your daily life, solidifying change in the body.
